Why impact glass on Mars is a major discovery

NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) has found deposits of glass within impact craters on Mars. Such deposits could provide us with more details on the possibility of past life on the Red Planet, said NASA.

What makes impact glass special? It actually has to do with how research has been conducted here on Earth. In particular, a 2014 study of an impact glass from within an impact area in Argentina provided organic plant molecules and plant matter than had been “entombed” when impact occurred.

It is therefore possible that Mars impact glass could hold similar clues to the planet’s past.
